Date: 2010-04-28 02:27 pm (UTC)can you press enter after each of teh photos you put on here. It just makes it to difficult to read comments. I got dizzy trying.
And other than being really devastated at Tyra winning (and being called the most intelligent by Merle. really Merle? srsly?) I felt like once Jessica and Pandora went Juju was my only hope. But She came out with some seriously bad makeup and a terrible clothing choice at the end. Actually.. all of them had the WORST choice of clothing for the fnial runway. Wth?
I think that once Bebe won, she had a coach that helped stop her wide eyes and her pulled back lips.. which were the only things that marred her beauty. Perhaps they are working on Tyra now and she will even out.. but I doubt you can take the stupid out. Her lack of knowledge was one of the biggest reasons I couldn't stand her competing. Another reason I felt Tati needed more seasoning. When you have no frame of reference you just always appear 2 steps behind.
I have yet to see the reunion. We were so devastated we just turned the tv off. I'll watch it online later this week.

Date: 2010-04-28 05:20 pm (UTC)Juju's makeup seemed to look fine in the workroom and then turn a weird ashy-gray colour sometimes on the runway. I wonder if it's a lighting issue.

Date: 2010-04-28 05:53 pm (UTC)Maybe it is a ethnic/color of skin issue. I never really noticed it until the last runway. She looked.. grey. and ashy. and well.. haggard. I also felt that they often poo-pooed her style choices as being "too ethnic." girl was the only non white/latina/black ethnicity there. if she wants to pull the far east into her clothing style I say she totally can. no one else was doing it. And it suited her. I think that some people see thru their glasses so long they forget there are other colors in the rainbow. Juju was asian, she wanted to do asian inspired clothingware. I find that calling her style "costumey" is actually bordering on saying her ethnicity should have been whitewashed.
sorry this was this only thing I haven't really felt was addressed with all the followups this season. Ongina (love her!) took her camp style into the androg direction with small asian influences.. But Juju took it farther. And she got called out for it. Just as much as it bothered me that pandora was called out for being too campy. There aer many styles of drag.. and of color and ethnicity. We have to remember to include ALL of themin a show like this or it DOES become the next drag supermodel.

Date: 2010-04-28 10:29 pm (UTC)I guess I must have missed Juju's outfits being called too costumey or the implication that they were too ethnic (maybe I was too bedazzled by her looks :)). That sucks though. I found it interesting last season when Bebe was alternately praised for the African themes in her clothing and then criticised for not giving her drag 'daughter' (when she put her in the Middle-Eastern-inspired getup) the same. I thought that Bebe was trying to go with the theme of heritage, rather than *Africa*. But that's not how the judges saw her, I guess.
Oh and PS! You should watch the reunion; I think it will make you feel a lot better; it did for me. Pandora, Jessica, Sonique and Sahara had some amazing stories about things that have happened to them since, and people seemed to be getting along. Even Tyra genuinely seemed a lot better, and acknowledged that she deserved the criticisms she got at the time... it was fun, overall, and left me feeling happy. It showed them being a lot more human and compassionate and really, I like almost all of them now. Also, Ru was wonderful, and wore a pink tie.
