RAVEN

[By the way, Raven?]

JUJUBEE! \o/

AND PRETTY MISS TYRA

----
Thank you Tati, thank you thank you!

Here's Tati's exit interview in which she loves Jessica Wild and says this:
"I think Raven’s issue with me stems from jealousy and insecurity. She cuts others down so she can feel better about herself. Someone with true confidence wouldn’t feel the need to do that. But hey… from all of her sh*t-talking I think she put more attention on me than I could have done alone. THANX RAVEN!"
---
Tom and Lorenzo of Project Rungay interviewed Pandora. Sounds like the Reunion episode is going to be dramatic.
"The only time I was really super offended and I felt he crossed the line was when he said I looked like a coke whore. I didn’t even know what to say. I was like, ‘Did you really just say that to me?’ [...] Raven is another one that wasn’t as bitchy around everybody else as she was in the interviews. I was shocked by a lot of the things she was saying and certainly not thrilled with some of the things she said about me. She was very nice to my face, but very NOT nice to me in the interviews. In person, and I’ve talked to Raven, I really like her, but on the show it was quite surprising. I think it’s going to be a very interesting reunion special."
Untucked, in which responsible editing shows that Raven might have memory problems.
I miss the positive energy of Season 1 and am kinda running out of steam to care about this show :( But there are rumours that Nina, Ongina and Shannel will be on next week's pre-finale show? That could be fun.
*Also, does anyone have suggestions on what they'd like to see in this comm, and/or would anyone want to do weekly discussion posts or such? I'm going to be mostly offline for the next few weeks so it would be cool if others could take over.

Date: 2010-04-14 05:30 am (UTC)There are times I've liked Raven because she's fierce and can perform (a *lot* better than Tyra) but she's just *so* mean and angry and really did her best to demoralise Tatianna. I don't understand her.

Date: 2010-04-14 06:45 am (UTC)Honestly, let's not like, Tatianna /is/ stuck and shouldn't be there anymore. Raven is the best competitor and deserves to win, bitch or not. She's right a lot of the time (though I did laugh my ass off at her being totally two-faced with Tatianna about calling her shit!).
Also, Juju is the sweetest little two-faced cunt ever!!! I adore her. How could you not? But she worked with Raven while they were creating the dresses, then told Tatianna they were best friends during untucked!! Wtf!!!

Date: 2010-04-15 07:37 am (UTC)Tati's really young, so I'm not going to argue that she should have been top 3. I think she's only going to get better though. But she entertained me so much with her interviews, especially while Morgan was around. She's hilarious (not always deliberately so, but still).

Date: 2010-04-15 07:48 am (UTC)I think Tati has/had talent. But she got stuck. But yeah, she was funny. I was very torn about her (I'm also torn about Tyra, but in reverse XD). I'm often like this about the queens. My favorite ones aren't necessarily the ones who I think deserve to win. I ended up not having a favorite for first season, because I loved, respected, or admired just about everyone in the top 5 (except Rebecca, of course).

Date: 2010-04-14 07:25 am (UTC)Untucked was probably the most revealing/affirming episode ever - for the first time I think Raven might actually be fucking crazier than Tyra. What an evil psycho bitch. It would fly in the face of everything RuPaul stands for if Raven wins, because Raven's personality just bloody *bites*. She's a twisted, petty, jealous cuntbasket who epitomizes just about every negative stereotype about gay men and drag queens there is. It galls me to see what a huge chance of taking this competition she has, and about the only thing that salves that is the fact that a crowned Raven won't be nearly as successful after this as Bebe, or even Nina, Ongina, or Shannel. She's just not likable enough to be the next drag superstar. She's shown that she's an amazing actress and can *pretend* to be civil, but anyone who's seen the show knows that she's just disguising her normal nasty bitch attitude.
Tyra continues to play the most lowbrow game of any of the queens. All she does is copy shit from other people; we've seen her weak-ass Beyonce several times, and now most of her bon mots from this episode were stolen straight from RuPaul herself. And hauling out her son to play on the judges' sympathies? That's fucking tacky. I hope Tyra's son never sees this show; I can't imagine that he wouldn't be ashamed of his dad's behavior.
Jujubee has serious issues with throwing shade. She'll throw shade, and then be all "Pleasedon'thatemepleasedon'thateme!!!" It's like she's taking that aspect of it way too seriously. As a drag queen, I think it's expected for you to throw a little shade, but it doesn't automatically put you on the same hateful crazy bitch level as Raven. Juju kept apologizing for slamming Tatianna even though Tatianna really didn't care that much. If you're going to throw shade or even just be critical of someone, have the balls to own it! Otherwise, just don't say anything and be The Nice One! Still, Jujubee is the most stable and likable contender left, and if she doesn't win this whole competition I will curse such a blue streak you will be able to see a giant geyser of blue fire erupt from my house on GoogleEarth.
On a lesser note, RuPaul and Debbie Reynolds really were right about Jujubee's overwrought lip-synching. Girl lip-synchs like she's in a wind tunnel or something.

Date: 2010-04-15 07:11 am (UTC)Yah. It's too bad that the show rewards Tyra so highly for her runway presentation, because even though she's really young she's obviously got money, or more likely, someone with money helping her out. Not many 21-year olds can afford those kinds of clothes and wigs (and Tati obviously can't; I think it sucks that that worked against her). The way the show is judged does end up giving a real advantage to the more economically privileged among them. Jade from season 1 made the same point in a BTS.
Tatianna is remarkably together, emotionally, for a 21-year old, and I give her credit for, as you said, not giving Raven the satisfaction (speaking of whom? Raven is 30 -- no matter how much she deludes herself that she looks 22 -- and way too old to be acting like a high-school bully!) She's funny sometimes though ("a crotch full of friends").
Agreed on Raven's crazy in Untucked. Ugh. I have to wonder how much of this Ru sees in advance because, yeah, Ru's philosophy is *all* about being nice. And given that Sonique was slammed so hard during the judging on episode 2 for making *one* snarky remark towards a guy on the street, it makes even less sense.
Jujubee is hilarious. Also, Tati deliberately threw the lipsync for her! Aww, sweet. Yeah, I think Jujubee was trying to make her cry at various points but they seemed to actually be friends.

Date: 2010-04-15 07:46 am (UTC)Hn, I hadn't thought about that aspect of it - though now you say it, it really does make me raise an eyebrow at several of Tyra's wigs and dresses throughout the competition. No wonder she got so into the part of the rich/spoiled widow and bride during the Snatch Game and bridal runways. And here I was thinking that a lot of the credit Tyra has gotten on the runway was due to her being crafty (meaning that she can sew her ass off, though she is also a scheming bitch of course).
Re: Season 1, I wonder how much that economic divide pointed a finger at Shannel. Back then I just attributed it to her being a Vegas performer, but she had *a lot* of swag. Now that I think about it, that Medusa outfit with the fake boobs hanging out was probably a ridiculously expensive costume. See, the more I think about this, the fishier things get. Now I'm wondering if Jade's tuck was so bad because she also didn't have the money to buy decent duct tape or a good gaff. :p
I'd forgotten that Tatianna said she was going to throw the lip-synch to save Jujubee. But in addition to that, I also think she had had her fill of Raven's crap and "Your skirt's too short"; she just had the vibe of "Okay, enough" by the end.

Yep. Jade mentioned that, re: Shannel -- not in an accusatory way, though (unfortunately in S's case, it didn't help her since Santino decided he hated her style).

Date: 2010-04-14 07:36 am (UTC)Oh, and no matter what happens, Pandora, Juju, Jessica Wild and Tati should go on tour together. I'd pay a very steep price to see them!

Date: 2010-04-14 07:24 pm (UTC)Me toooo. I know this sounds ridiculous given my love for this show, but in general I hate reality tv. Season 1, I thought, wasn't so much reality tv as a spoof of the genre + a fabulous showcase of talent/personality and gay culture + RuPaul.
I really really hope that Ru and/or his people listen to the feedback and make some changes. From what I've seen, a lot of people are un-thrilled with the reality-tvness of this season. I don't mean that I have't liked this season -- Ru is always hilarious and I love her forever -- but there were so many people I'd have loved to see more of (including Shangela. She had a great personality).
Pandora, Juju, Jessica Wild and Tati should go on tour together
This would be amaaaazing! Especially if Nina came along with Yessica. They're buddies! I saw an interview with Yessica in which she talked about how Nina "bedazzled" her, the first time she saw her perform :D I love then both so much.
And Juju *has* to win. I love her and her mouth and I wish I could get away with calling people dirty whores as often as she does. (Apparently Tatianna's thinking about becoming a pop star like Britney? I think her first single should be 'I pity you for the face that you have!' I'd buy it!)

Date: 2010-04-16 02:08 am (UTC)Omg I LOL'd when I read this.
Daaaaaaaamn, Sonique is hot as hell. It's so weird because she's such a blah looking guy, but she's a HOT woman. I don't know how that works.

Date: 2010-04-16 02:56 am (UTC)From what I know, they all have to agree to appear on camera out of female drag while filming (in the workroom, for interviews etc). I wonder what that was like for Sonique, given that she identifies as transsexual (and said in an interview that she put her transition on hold do to the show). So, hm, perhaps her male drag was a little bit of her having fun with the concept of having to be a guy for the cameras?

Date: 2010-04-14 01:56 pm (UTC)I think Raven will probably win, although I'd rather it be Juju. I think Raven is the best when it comes to being a competitor (as someone else commented here), but she IS really bitchy, which is what holds me back from liking her entirely. I totally lol'd at the whole Tati "She's shit" flashback because I knew that was coming.
Juju is my favorite of the remaining three, but she hasn't done very well overall, and I feel she's a bit weak. Tyra can work the runway but she sucks at everything else and I want her to GTFO already.
I liked Tati somewhat, but I still wanted her to go for many reasons. I do think Raven was really overly obsessive about hating on her though. She was like the Santino to Tati's Pandora, except even harsher.
Btw, somewhat random but related, I got the "Drag Race" album on itunes the other day and I love the hell out of it.

Date: 2010-04-15 06:48 am (UTC)Isn't the new Drag Race album basically remixes from Ru's last album, 'Champion'?

Date: 2010-04-15 03:18 pm (UTC)Does that mean that she should win? Well, no. I think that the last queen left that is the most like RuPaul is Jujubee. Ru herself said earlier in the season that she does "sassy, not bitchy". Ru could serve up an insult in such a charming manner that the person she insulted would thank her for the comment. Raven lacks the guile it takes to pull that off.
Juju needs to stop choking on the main stage! Girl, pull yourself together!
no subject
Date: 2010-04-15 07:53 pm (UTC)That being said, Raven definitely knows how to play this game to her advantage. She saves all her true bitchiness for backstage and interviews, and gives the judges exactly what they're looking for out on the runway. Even Tyra's two-facedness is starting to pale in comparison to what a great actress (or perhaps just a skilled liar) Raven has turned out to be.
And you're totally right that Jujubee is the last queen left who is the most like RuPaul. By that criteria, she should win, but who knows what the judges are looking for anymore.
