I just saw the second episode. I wonder if there's a bit of that Project Runway syndrome going on, in which the first season is sort of raw and they haven't figured out how to manufacture fake drama amongst the contestants. There's a lot more conflict, already, in Season 2. And so far, IMO, there's nobody on the level of Season 1's Ongina:
There's no Bebe Zahara Benet:
But most of all there's no Nina Flowers, locas!
I'm absolutely in love with her. She's so fabulous and bizarre and has this completely endearing Puerto Rican accent (spoilers for winner of season 1!) I just loved how Ongina and she did the androgynous thing and barely ever bothered with boobs or glam wigs. Nina looks sort of scary, maybe, but was the sweetest one of all of them.
From the current season, these are my favourites:
* JUJUBEE!
She's fierce, and seems nice. I know that's not saying much, but it's only been two episodes.
* PANDORA BOXX, who is a sweetheart both as a boy and as a girl. She's sort of soft-spoken but can also be pretty edgy and is just all-round adorable.
And hey, she looks just like Kathy Griffin (who was a guest judge!)
* MORGAN is admittedly kinda full of herself but I give her a pass for now because she's pretty, as a boy and as a girl -- even though her makeup maybe makes her look a little harsh in photos, or maybe just doesn't photograph too well? But she's hot and her body is FIERCE.
* SONIQUE, who I find hilarious because she goes from this:

She seems pretty sweet in general and not overly dramatic.

Here, the problem with this season is that too many of the other contestants can be summed up thusly:
* Epecially RAVEN. I do not understand her appeal. The Project Rungay guys have been blogging the show and apparently she's considered a frontrunner, is sexy and has amazing makeup skills -- to which my response is: are they blind? This overly-contoured, bland, traditional look? Not good makeup.
No, Raven. One of the judges said that she looks like Donatella Versace, which is true. And not in a good way. Plus, she's really, really mean, disses the others' looks, and acts like she's entitled to win everything. Nina Flowers would never do this thing!
* TYRA, I think, is the most gorgeous of all the contestants. But sadly, seems like not a very nice person. She's not even an entertaining bitch. But wow, so stunning.
* TATIANNA:
You are so pretty, why must you be so mean?
Now I guess this was meant to be funny, but it wasn't: two lovely female poledancers came in to teach the queens a few tricks for a challenge they were going to do the next day. Which, lucky them, right? But no, this is what Tatianna did while watching the women:
Ew female bits!
That was disrespectful, and so Tatianna, you are at the bottom of my list! I'm sure you care. Again, Nina Flowers would never do this thing. Nina Flowers looooooved Charo (who was a guest judge last season! You see, this is the best show ever) and loved everyone. And could out-vogue anyone's ass.

So, Jujubee and Pandora so far seem like the most lovely and talented, but most of the contestants seem to be going for the traditional drag look so far. Which is alright, but I think that if you're going to do what everyone else is doing, you should really go for it. Like RuPaul herself, or like Bebe Zahara Benet:

Date: 2010-02-28 02:38 am (UTC)Yeah, these girls are fierce, but why so mean? Raven is a pill and I totally agree about Tatiana, totally ruined it for me because she's so beautiful. She got a slice of humble pie in that ep though when they voted against her, so at least. It's unrelated, but I still felt gratified.
