Date: 2013-02-26 05:01 am (UTC)It's really hard to believe how weak the performances were, given how much time they've had to study and practice since Snatch Game debuted in S2. Good grief, that was disappointing. (I will say that Coco had Janet's voice and look down, but didn't seem to embody her enough to deliver comedy.) Chad Michaels remains the reigning queen of this challenge, in my opinion.
Lineysha may be one of the most gorgeous queens to ever compete on this show, but she should have allocated extra time to prepare for this challenge. I wish she had -- I had hoped that she might break the Puerto Rican queen curse.
Regarding Rolaskatox, I wish RPDR would demote or fire the producer who keeps encouraging these cliques. Who finds this interesting? Seriously, I'd trade the time dedicated to mentioning it each episode for almost any other content, even plugging Ru's songs on iTunes. ;)
And let's review those three, shall we? Alaska's kind of staying middle of the pack thus far, in my opinion. I like her, but, so far, she hasn't wowed me. Roxxxy's Tamar Braxton was repetitive and one-note. Detox's Ke$ha was simply embarrassing and tasteless.
Speaking of Detox, I didn't like her snobbery toward Lineysha at all. Gurl, you're in the bottom two: it ain't up to you who you get to lipsync against. Ru is in charge here. And, frankly, I got tired of Detox's overdone lipsync very quickly -- she can only use that trick/style once. At least Lineysha's runway look was strong. Detox's jellyfish? Not so much.

Right now, I'd like to see Jinkx, Coco, and Alaska (I suppose) in the Top 3. That way, each of this season's factions is represented. Jinkx wins for the independent comedy queens, Coco finally beats Alyssa for real, and Alaska can hold her head high at home that she's at least Top 3.

Girl best hope she never gets in the bottom again cause she'll be gone. I feel like Alaska uses gimmicks as a crutch a lot as well and in a way that isnt pulled off because it's a complete focus on character/crazy/whatever as a last ditch attempt to save herself while no energy is expended on actually doing what is asked semi-competently. What can I say, I've grown to love her, but her giving up in the first photoshoot just really exposed a character flaw for me that I'll never be comfortable with.

I loved her as Ru's Mom, but I was a little surprised to see a new mask in the mini-challenge this week. The first time, with the horse mask, I thought it was being witty, editorial, avant garde, etc. like Raja's entrance. The second time, and I am sorry to say this, but I couldn't help thinking it was kind of lazy, like she was trying to avoid putting on makeup.
That said, "Chaz Bono came out of Cher's vagina," may be one of my favorite S5 quotes already. :)

Jade, I really don't know. She has a good look but is pretty dull otherwise, sorry to say.
Alaska, her Lady Bunny was cute and I liked her in the ballet last week. She's funny in confessionals. She is slowly starting to rise up from the middle of the pack for me. Not mentioning Sharon every 5 minutes (I know some of this was
editing/baiting, not her fault) helps considerably. She needs to shine on her own from now on with no more name dropping. She's intriguing and I want to see more of her.
Detox was painful. If you are going to be so crude as to pee on stage it BETTER be hysterical. That wasn't even funny. Just gross and desperately attention seeking. So disappointing because I expected her to really own this episode.
Coco - lovely as Janet, but not lively at all. Not funny, not interesting. Not seeing how she plays her six nights a week and can't make her funny?
Ivy - Looked really cute as Marilyn but *wow* what a poor choice for her. She had jokes hand fed to her that sailed over her head and into Little Edie's lap. Ouch. However, she had my fave runway look and for some reason she's one of my faves this season.
Alyssa - Ouch. Such a poor job there. One doesn't need to be a 'character' queen to be able to pick up on the jokes being hand fed to you. You just need to be aware of pop culture, which is a stickler for Ru. I felt like Alyssa was coasting this week which is strange since last week Ru sent two queens home for slacking and Alyssa was the one that said Ru ain't playin' the radio (I think....)
Roxxy, I have no idea how Tamar is supposed to be, but at least she made it somewhat amusing. I'm not sure what I think about Roxxy but I can see where the other queen might get annoyed with her pretty fast.

If Lineysha had been able to think on her feet and come back to Ru's "what did Barack have for breakfast?" with something along the lines of "An organic kale and liver smoothie. I like to feed him foods with iron in them. It's like a bulletproof vest for his stomach." Or she could have gone the racist route, "watermelon and fried chicken." So yeah, tricky and very risky. Instead we got incomprehensible and confusing.
Detox's Ke$ha was unfunny and her runway was just fug.
Ivy's runway dress was so cute and creative and well-done! Loved it! Her Marilyn was a snooooooozefest. Ru was lobbing all these easy jokes at her and they floated past her head (but how perfect that Jinkx was able to capitalize on them). I'm worried for Ivy over the next couple of weeks; her sewing skills are amazing but she's not distinguishing herself much in the challenges.
Roxxxy really committed to Tamar Braxton; I was entertained. Took me a second to remember what she wore on the runway, so not the most memorable outfit. And I actually have the exact same commentary for Alaska, haha.
Alyssa was very lucky that she had immunity.
I wish that the queens would realize that just because you can do the LOOK of someone and you get paid to lipsync to their songs, that does NOT mean they are a good choice for Snatch Game. Coco looked like Janet...but she didn't know how to make Janet FUNNY. Alyssa and Detox suffered from the same thing. Jade was trying at least, to minimal effect.
Honestly, I preferred Lineysha's lipsync. Not a fan of Detox's rubberlip style.

It's as though a lot of the contestants think the wig and the clothes are enough, but you can't just wear the costume - you have to play the character too. Being visually recognizable is not enough. Case in point? So many queens seemed to assume that because they chose obvious current icons they automatically had an advantage over Jinkx. Like "Well I don't know who this Edie person is so gooood luck to you." And they assumed wrong. Ha!
Jinkx' point - "know your character from the moment you audition" - is absolutely true. It was stupid of Alyssa to get at her for that, and to then not apologize when Michelle basically said the exact same thing. If you're really there to win, you need to be ready.

Date: 2013-02-27 01:18 am (UTC)1. I think the only reason they gave Detox the win in her mini-challenge is so people could say, "Well, she won the mini-challenge for her set/group." 'cause she surely didn't do anything else right for the rest of the episode (I thought Coco looked the most put-together of the three). It was to put her on a theoretically-even footing with Lineysha in the lipsync, because Lineysha's runway was much better. Also? I think Tom and Lorenzo have it right: Ru put her in the bottom to say, "I see something in you, but you are not bringing your A game. I want to see your best."
2. What is up with the "Chow Down" queens and their bodily fluids? Is this some sort of in-joke since Willam vomited on the stage? Are they making some sort of statement or sending some sort of message by puking and peeing on Ru's show? I am puzzled, and heaven help us if Vicki goes on the show and continues the trend, because a really bad cold is about all she's got left in the vaguely family-friendly fluid department.

Alaska's Lady Bunny was passable, largely only because Alaska herself is witty. And I'm disappointed that her faux Little Mermaid runway wasn't flashier and more obvious. I just want to put her and Ivy Winters together and make one incredible queen.
The problem with Ke$ha is that there's not much to her other than the sight gag of her being a mess all the time. And I hope Detox didn't actually pee, because that was just nasty and not funny. I thought she deserved to stay over sad Lineysha, but I'm not a fan of her "unique" lip sync. It's like she's making fun of lip syncing and not actually performing.
Roxxxy: Explain to me how you think more people know Tamar Braxton than Little Edie/Grey Gardens. And why in the world would you not do Toni Braxton, who actually has some claim to fame other than being "one of those sisters on that reality show"? To be honest, this is my complaint with Alyssa too, because she was wanting to do one of the Real Housewives at first. Like WHO, motherfucker?!?
Coco's Janet Jackson was weak, and I can't imagine any club owner worth their salt paying her to do that on a regular basis. Her runway had nothing to do with the theme. She's slightly more in the right than Alyssa, but I wish they would both give it a fucking rest.
Jade and Ivy just sucked this week.
Lineysha and Alyssa were both totally resting on pretty, and Alyssa is just lucky she had immunity. I'm sorry, did they only see the seasons where Tyra and (to a lesser extent) Bebe won? Because it's been 5 years and everyone else except for these two and Vivienne Pinay knows that this is not a drag beauty contest.
I find it hilarious in a not-so-good way that Michelle Visage keeps demanding glamour from folks like Jinkx when she dresses like Michelle Visage.

Date: 2013-02-28 06:35 am (UTC)Since I follow Detox, Jynkx, Roxxxy, Coco and Alaska on Twitter I don't take a lot of the scripted plots and seasonal character arcs too literally. I wish it wasn't so obvious that the show is edited to filth. (Because sometimes the editing is really bad.) Though I have to say, the final edit that made it seem like everyone was ganging up on Jynkx made me feel uncomfortable. I wasn't the only one as many of Jynkx's fans took to tweet her to show support. Alyssa and Coco are cool with each other and ha talked about their past feud being played up for maximum drama. Coco was joking today that she was going to watch Grey Gardens on her day off! Now she finally knows who Little Edie is, LOL! Jynkx and Coco were tweeting each other back and forth on Tuesday so there's no hard feelings there.
