Date: 2012-10-30 04:06 am (UTC)For me, it was a tie between Nina Flowers and Chad Michaels for best runway look on this week's Drag Race. If someone were about to poke me in the eye with a makeup brush, I might give the edge to Nina. I'm really going to miss her: Nina is one of my favorites.
I could've seen Chad as Joan Crawford and Shannel as Bette Davis. Chad does a great Joan (http://queermagnet.com/qmw/wp-content/uploads/2010/02/0154.jpg). I really liked Manila's Madonna - she had the facial gestures dead-on.
You know, I respect Tammie for being who she is, and she ain't afraid to read anybody whether it is in her best interest to do so or not. I was also really happy with the lipsync: I much prefer to see two queens at the top of their game where Ru has to pick the best of the best, rather than one queen winning because the other faltered. Both Latrice and Tammie were terrific, I thought.
If Latrice and Chad ever have to lipsync against one another, I think the stage under them will flee in terror. :)
I'm kind of feeling like Juju and Raven are in Safeland right now. I'd like to see them take it to the next level.
Overall, while I'm still not crazy about the team idea, I liked this episode much better than the first one, and I look forward to next week.

Date: 2012-10-31 10:18 pm (UTC)I guess I forgot about that because, to me, it seemed like an obligatory lipsync rather than a real one. I vaguely remember that there was some controversy one year, might've been the first one ... I think some fans pointed out that Nina Flowers had never been in the bottom two during S1 while Bebe had, yet Bebe won. Something like that?
Anyway, since then, it seems like every queen has had to lipsync at least once per season, and it seemed to me (just my opinion) that for Episode 11, Chad didn't truly deserve to be in the bottom two, but she hadn't lipsynched yet, so I sort of felt like RPDR was covering itself from potential S1 criticism in that regard.
Nevertheless, you are quite correct. It has happened, and the floor didn't roll up. Mind, it had already survived Willam puking on it, so perhaps it was resigned to its fate at that point. ;)

Date: 2012-10-30 09:46 am (UTC)I think that Manila is a bit annoying usually, but she was alright this episode. I agree at how sad it was when they mentioned Sahara :(
I really liked everyone's runway look. I love Alexis Mateo but girl that Shakira was dullll. I'm glad they won because of Charro Sofia. I wasn't really digging Brown Flowers' runway look and I think their performance in the Gaff In was meh at best. Tammie Brown is weird and crazy but I liked her. I'm sad to see both of them go.
Also, the Untucked was pretty emotional!

Date: 2012-10-30 03:05 pm (UTC)God, the LSfoL had me on edge. Tammie was giving Latrice a real run for her money, putting on an amazing show.
The mini-challenge? OMG. Are Jujubee and Raven...ya know...sleeping together? The editing made me think they got a perfect score. :O
I doubt their respective mom's know them as well as they know each other. The Devil Wears Nada. LOLOLOLOL, and you guys said you can't write jokes?!

Date: 2012-10-31 10:16 am (UTC)There were no winning teams tonight, just individuals. I did enjoy Yara's Charo and I get why she basically won the challenge, but it is interesting to see such an off-color impersonation get the win, considering that Charo has been on the show before. I think this is the first time this has happened.
I think Michelle Visage needs to give Shannel a break; I thought her Lucy was pretty good. It's hard to do anything but the iconic crying when you don't have anyone else from I Love Lucy to riff off of.
I suppose Chad's Bette Davis was good, but for me it was a lot like Nina's La Lupe - I don't know enough about the original to appreciate the impression. It was a little one-note. And Nina...too bad she was on the show before funny was really a requirement. Nina is nice and doesn't really know how to say no, but she's never had to be funny before.
Poor Jujubee will never look like anyone except sort-of Kimora Lee Simmons. Wasn't feeling the Fran Drescher impression either. And Raven was just bummed-out Raven dressed as Bea Arthur. She had several opportunities to riff off some classic BA, and she didn't take them. Like the pie gag with the Pit Crew, for heaven's sakes. That would have been a perfect opportunity for Raven/Bea to pull out Maude: "God'll get you for that, Pit Crew!"
The look of Madonna was there for Manila, which is a plus because I honestly didn't think she could pull it off. But honestly the funniest thing about Madonna was Vicki Lawrence saying that she was full of shit. Latrice's Oprah was just Latrice; I wonder if maybe it wouldn't have been funnier with props a la Oprah's Favorite Things. I was thinking that she should have run with Ru's throwaway line suggestion of being Paula Deen, but Paula Deen is pretty one-note too. And Latrice probably wouldn't be comfortable doing fat/fatty food jokes, given her dust-up with Santino last cycle.
But for the most part Santino was right, and I fucking hate admitting that Santino can be right about anything. No one was really funny; in fact, the funniest bits were the queens fucking up their timing. The only joke that actually stayed with me was Shakira, Charo, and the bag of cocaine and possibly a ham sandwich.
You know, I used to have a little sympathy for Tammie Brown in season 1, since she was clearly so unprepared to be judged in a competition. But it's gone now. Clearly the only thing Tammie Brown is good at is being Tammie Brown, and if you want something else then it sucks to be you. The only reason she's so rah-rah-individualism is because she has nothing else to offer. It's all the same crazy Tammie Brown old Hollywood grimace-face, wincing around the place on unsteady legs, and non-sequiturs because bitch won't listen. This is not a failure to recognize the wondrous individual; it is a failure on the wondrous individual's part to motherfucking follow instructions. Because if Tammie Brown doesn't fucking feel like it, she's just not going to do it.
And really? You call that a lip sync performance? Tammie Brown was "watermelon cantaloupe peas and carrots"-ing almost every line in that song. And it's not like she got contemporary R&B or a club banger this time around - Ru threw her Ethel Merman, for crying out loud. And she still just wobbled around the stage in her Tammie Brown way, wincing away doing Conan O'Brien's nutcracker-mouthed impression of Mitt Romney. Because Tammie Brown cannot perform in any way that does not involve just being Tammie Brown. I can't believe I'm saying this, but *Mimi* deserved to be on here more than Tammie!

Date: 2012-11-01 12:04 am (UTC)Mama Ru's Gaff-In was quite unfunny. Some of the queens did a great impersonations (Shannel, Manila and Jujubee) and some really didn't (Raven, Tammie and Yara Sofia). The one true disappointment was Latrice. Her Oprah was really lacking. :( I think Maya Angelou would've been better or really anyone else!
In regards to Brown Flowers' oust, well, Tammie said she was going to do what she felt like doing and Nina lacked that zing she had during her season. It made me sad to see Nina go but, in some ways, it felt inevitable. In all truth, I couldn't see Tammie winning All-Stars.
Which brings me to something I was thinking about as the episode came to an end: there's only one space next to Mama Ru on the Legendary!Wall of fame. Could it be that the last two queens, a.k.a. the winning team, will have to LSFYL or otherwise battle each other so that one of them can get their pic next to Ru? O_O!
