Date: 2010-07-20 06:37 pm (UTC)which we all know is what makes drag race so damn interesting
Hrm. I loved the relative lack of drama in season 1 of Drag Race compared to season 2. I wish they wouldn't try to manufacture conflict and just focus on the drag instead.

Date: 2010-07-20 06:45 pm (UTC)I know! I expected a heel in an eye socket at 7th minute and an ambulance at 17th. What was Logo thinking with creating a show where people are actually ... nice?
: )

Date: 2010-07-20 06:46 pm (UTC)In Drag Race, I don't think the drama was manufactured. I think the queens were speaking their minds and sharing their opinions which tends to offend people if things are said the wrong way. And in season 2, I think things were said the wrong way a lot.
in Drag U, I think the drama might be manufactured just because there are only 3 queens in an episode. It's a lot easier for drama to break out if there are 7 to 10 opinionated queens in one room together competing against one another. But in Drag U, it's supposed to be about the women going through a transformation.
What I don't understand is something JuJu (i think) said. Something about not wanting to get kicked off? I don't know... I can't remember.

Haha yeah I was a bit confused by that too. Maybe the Profs don't exactly know the rules either, yet? :)
I'd love to see more of a 'drag boot camp' sort of deal, with the Profs giving more specific instruction to the women on performance and makeup and how to feel the drag. It was fun, but felt like some of the time was wasted on things like how to walk in heels and project runway-style sequences in the workroom with making the dresses. Which is OK but not what makes drag fun.
Also, more of Ru talking! I love his office.

Date: 2010-07-20 07:08 pm (UTC)And I love the boot camp idea. Like... getting about 10 women in a boot camp with 10 queens. And then each week, they have a challenge. These women (especially the tomboys) don't necessarily know how to put on make-up and how to pick out the right outfit and do girly things and just present themselves with grace, power, and elegance like a true queen can.
I kinda like seeing Ru not in drag. I think he's a gorgeous man and a gorgeous woman. He's just hot all around.. and hilarious!

Date: 2010-07-20 06:35 pm (UTC)But producers and stuff know that society as a whole like watching other people's drama. That's why reality shows are such a big hit.

Date: 2010-07-20 06:42 pm (UTC)And the fact that they all really *needed* an esteem boost made me wish that the grading part of the judging had been left out. Because the women obviously all felt so great about themselves after the runway bit, and it sucked to see them suddenly confused and hurt when the guest judges gave them low grades on aspects of their performances.

Date: 2010-07-20 07:06 pm (UTC)And I think you're right about Rayna. She did so well (that wig was bad, though. Which was Juju's fault, not hers) and was so funny (Juju: "but you do feel like a *powerful* sausage?").
I got the sense that Mia Tyler felt uncomfortable with having to give them each grades.

Date: 2010-07-20 07:16 pm (UTC)I don't really think it's fair that the women get graded on their overall look when they're not the ones who completely picked out the dress, the shoes, and the hair. So maybe there is something else that's gonna happen with the queens... we just don't know yet.
And the plot thickens... dun dun dun ;]
