Hi!

I'm so glad to see this community!

Quick thoughts:

Entry looks I liked: Sasha Velour, Nina Bonina Brown, and Charlie Hides. I thought Farrah's makeup was good. Vocally, does Alexis sound like Roxxxy to anybody else, or is it just me? Maybe even looks a teeny bit like her?

I was quite surprised to learn that Valentina had been doing drag for less than a year when this was filmed! If this is where she is now, think where she'll be in five years. I was impressed!

Every Lady Gaga moment was perfect. :) Well, maybe with one exception, and it wasn't because of her - she's amazing!

I'm sure this is probably just me ... but ... do you know those people who are mean to anyone they think is equal or below them, and then kiss up to those above them? That was kind of the impression Eureka gave me. She made a lot of cutting comments, and then was all impassioned sweetness and emotion to Lady Gaga ... the gushing, while probably real ... I don't know. I felt like Eureka made it really about her, like she was aware the spotlight was on her, and she was milking it. (I'm sorry. I feel like I am not explaining this very well.)

I know some fans don't like it (Which I get and respect - I understand about many bars doing Drag Race nights on Mondays, and it bringing in traffic), but for me, it is wonderful that they've moved the show to Friday! Now I can stay up chatting about it and not be tardy to work the next morning. :)

One thing that stood out for me with both Nina and Sasha: they both seemed really, sincerely committed to their looks. I think Charlie's experience will be a treat to see going forward - I expect good Snatch Game from CH.

I also like that, at least to my eye (others may feel differently), this season doesn't seem to have one queen in first place out of the gate. Like, it's not Bob and then everybody else, or Bianca and then everybody else.

I look forward to spending Season 9 with all of you! This community makes this my favorite time of year! :) Hooray!

I see the Alexis/Roxxxy thing, but I think it's mostly that they're both pageant girls with similar builds.

Eureka is a focus-puller. This will either make her beloved or despised. Jury is out.

I don't mind about the change of day. I am also forty-mumble years old and haven't been to a bar since the nineties. I will be watching on Amazon Prime so I'm on a delay anyway.

Yay season 9, and yay for not totally dead livejournal. :)

Yay Drag Race is back!

They really shook up the formula with several firsts. Guest judge pretending to be a contestant (for a few seconds anyway). No challenging photo shoot. No post-challenging-photo-shoot dedragging commentary. No construction challenge. No elimination. A queen from a prior season returning at the end of the first episode.

Impressions: Sasha Velour is committed to her aesthetic and produced quality looks. Eureka is amazing at pulling the camera with snarky comments. Valentina is super polished, especially since she is such a new queen.

Both Vegas queens seem to be body but little more. Perhaps their personalities will show later.

The season is heavily weighted to the east coast. One from Los Angeles, two from Vegas, two midwest, everyone else east coast.

Predictions: early outs are Jaymes and the Vegas queens. Eureka's quick wit gives the producers a lot of ammo to paint her as the villain, and as a result she lasts longer than she "ought" to. Charlie Hides will be eliminated "unfairly" by having to lipsynch when she doesn't "deserve" to. Sasha or Nina will get the "we need to see YOU" critique in two or three episodes.

Huh. Just realized that Aja was all "I will wear the actual kimono Lady Gaga wore" and then WORE SOMETHING ELSE. innnnteresting.

That's a great point about Aja and the kimono! I hadn't thought about that. As you said, interesting!

For sure.

In past seasons it has often been troubling to lose someone immediately and I wished that episode one could be a non-elimination so we could spend more time with everyone. Well, voila. Intros, then a mini-ball.

On the other hand, EVERYONE gets sent home for disappointing RuPaul, soooo.... :P
