First up, what is up with the pit crew! Those briefs are leaving nothing to the imagination!

Chad's theme is The Hunger Games this season. I loved team Rujubee's look the best on Runway.

[identity profile] xbenji65.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 07:28 am (UTC)(link)
Well he was around Josh Hutcherson at the NewNowNext Awards in April when Hunger Games was out and All-Stars was filmed like a month later.

I love the crappy prizes the mini-challenge winners are getting this season.

Pies in the face.

Subscriptions to underwear clubs.

How much worse can it get?

Much worse, I hope.

[identity profile] pharna.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:47 pm (UTC)(link)
At least the underwear is a prize. Pie? Shoulda hit the losers! I bet that's what Raven was thinking...

Gag prizes are glorious. Next better be a life time supply of Pepto or instant coffee, lol.

Lifetime supply of Spam

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 08:25 am (UTC)(link)
A lifetime supply of duct tape would be relevant. XD

Happy to see Latrilla go home ONLY, because I thought they deserved it last week. Tammy killed Latrice last week. They stayed because they are fan favorites. This week it was fan favorites against fan favorites so it actually came down to who was better. Juju killed it.

[identity profile] kapvik.livejournal.com 2012-11-07 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
Disagree so much, Tammie Brown couldn't kill bacteria with Lysol.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 08:26 am (UTC)(link)
I love Juju and Manila and I couldn't call it. But I didn't want to lose either of them so it was lose-lose. :/

[identity profile] jejuneraccoon.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 05:04 am (UTC)(link)
I happened to really like what Raven wore.

[identity profile] pharna.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:45 pm (UTC)(link)
Michelle knows that Raven is top class, that's probably why she's being a hardass. She just doesn't care when she knows her feedback will just go over someone's head.

I'm sad Manila went, too - I didn't like her that much in her season but she seems to have matured and grown so much since then. Loved her in this.

[identity profile] chungguksaram.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 05:52 pm (UTC)(link)
i'm almost certain ru kept yarlexis around just to be ~shocking~
especially after alexis's tirade, it would've been too obvious to eliminate them

[identity profile] pharna.livejournal.com 2012-11-06 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
Like that sort of thing matters to Ru.
I think...

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 08:34 am (UTC)(link)
"I think the last three episodes have demonstrated that the team dynamic doesn't work. Each team appears to have a noticeable and disproportionate rift between the stronger and weaker member and I find myself wanting the queens to be judged on their own merit." I agree completely. It's such a shame that Logo only gave them half a season; otherwise we wouldn't have to lose two queens every week. I think the team idea is neat but it might be cooler to have them not only be judged on their own merits, but also switch up the groups every week. The bottom two teams could evaluate each other and make their pitch to Ru on who should be eliminated. Which would provide extra drama. XD The teams idea is cool but I don't think that they should both have to go. Doesn't seem fair. Like you said, there is clearly a stronger and a weaker member in each team.

"Manila was my main girl and has been my favorite since season 3. " Same. I loved Manila in season 3. I adored season 2 so much and I didn't think that I would like the season 3 queens but she was my favorite almost right away. I love a lot of the queens in this All Stars season but she's my ultimate fav and I really, really wanted her to win. :( I think that she's been fab all season and it's such a shame that both team members have to be eliminated each week. :(

NGL, I'm ten kinds of sadfaced to see Team Latrila go home. OTOH, because Latrice and Manila were my faves from day one. OTOH, I do have to agree that Latrice (groovy as she is) isn't on the same page aesthetically that Manila is. And, like it or no, it put her at a disadvantage. Manila does a very pop, very visual type of drag that Latrice simply doesn't.

I...don't understand why Mama Ru would keep Yarlexis around. They performed the lowest and their runway was all over the place. Had either of them LSFYL and won, I'd have still be sad to see Team Latrila go. It just wouldn't have read as arbitrary as it did.

So now I'm cheering for Team Rujubee and trying not to show kitty claws at Yarlexis. >:-/

Manila does a very pop, very visual type of drag that Latrice simply doesn't. " I agree. I love Latrice but she's definitely not on the same level as Manila. I love how well they've gotten along and how much they've learned from each other but Latrice did have a disadvantage. Her style is so different from Manila's, which is very big and over the top but at the same time very shiny and glamorous.

I wish that Yarlexis had been eliminated instead. I didn't feel that they did as much in the challenge and it didn't have anything to do with a language barrier. I just didn't think that either of them were as out there and dedicated as some of the other teams. It's interesting, though, that each team had a member who did great and worked really hard, and a member who struggled and seemed to lag behind.

*nods* This week's Untucked touched a little on this. But, yeah, every single team has one queen who isn't serving everything--when, clearly, they should. I mean, this is All-Stars after all.

I was upset after Team Latrila sashayed away. Thanks to their video, though, I can see that they've moved on. It's also great to see them being friends.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 02:06 am (UTC)(link)
It's weird how Chad's getting a completely different edit this time around than the one she got in season 4. I wonder if she's actually acting differently or if she's just being edited that way. I mean we don't know, she could have acted the same way but since they had Phi Phi to play with they gave her a more humble edit. Ah, the mysteries of television.
I agree-there is definitely one member of each time, since the first ep, who doesn't seem to be trying as hard as her partner. I don't get why. I mean, this is All-Stars after all. Exactly; it should be an honor to be there. I kind of think that some girls aren't getting that.
I was really upset that Latrila sashayed away too. I actually made the mistake of jumping on twitter to tweet something before the episode had aired on the west coast and just under my tweet in the timeline was one from Manila on her and Latice's new video The Chop. So I had a feeling going into watching this ep that they were going to be eliminated but I was in such denial the whole time. I honestly wanted Manila to win this whole thing. I really think that she's the fiercest of the All Stars; she works so hard and I don't know if everyone takes her as seriously as I feel that they should. I've watched clips of her performances online and they're amazing! So even after watching The Chop a few times I'm still bummed that they were eliminated and that Manila didn't win. But she seems quite at peace with it and as you said, moved on. It's also great to see them being friends. It really is. I saw or read Manila say that Latrice is her sister now for life! I love how RuPaul's Drag Race can create bonds like that! I love the video for The Chop-they both look great and they look like they had a blast. <3

[identity profile] lucifuge-5.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 02:21 am (UTC)(link)
I've been wondering about Chad too! Because she's certainly not in Mother Hen mode like she was during her season. I think that she made up her mind to win All-Stars and that, maybe, she needed to keep her claws partially out. Perhaps the Hunger Games have inspired her? Not for nothing she keeps quoting the books and such...

Honestly, I give everyone on the show the benefit of the doubt up to a point (regarding editing). Though, iirc, Chad wasn't as snarky as she was in S4.

The video is faboo! Here's hoping we get more music and vids from them. ^_^

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, personally I liked her Mother Hen/Mother Dust mode better but it could always be the editing. I definitely agree that her claws have been partially out all season. Maybe she was disappointed that she didn't win S4/ work harder (although I think that Sharon earned her win!). Chad isn't coming off as likable as she did before. :/
What's iirc?
I don't know; this show loves to edit things any way the feel creates the most drama. Untucked is a huge indicator of that. Phi Phi's complained quite loudly on twitter that some of her statements were taken out of context, and in season 4 I felt like the editors spoiled the outcome of the lip sync by focusing on the winner so that you could tell ahead of time who won. So I don't know; I really wouldn't be surprised if they were giving certain girls different edits-I mean other reality shows do so why not them? Either way it's still a vastly entertaining show. And series of shows.
Aw, I agree! I love the song and the video. It's so much fun!!! :D Yes, lets hope they do more together in the future. :D

[identity profile] lucifuge-5.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
iirc = if i recall correctly.

Re the editing: I might be wrong, but I seem to remember Pandora Boxx saying something to the tune of "people are EXACTLY what you see in the show." She might've said it in one of the RuCaps?

The one queen who's the exception is William. I seem to remember her telling Tom & Lorenzo that she was 'in character' the whole time she was in the show. The reasoning was that she thought it would make her stand out in the show.

I'm thinking about your comment upthread where you said I don't get why. I mean, this is All-Stars after all. Exactly; it should be an honor to be there. I kind of think that some girls aren't getting that.

Even if they're playing in teams and it's a shortened season (compared to a regular one), some queens haven't really given it their all. I'm thinking of Nina Flowers. I was so excited about seeing her, but she was very much in the background.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Cool, thanks.
Hhm, that's interesting. It seems to me like the producers and editors do a fair bit of manipulating with the editing but I could be wrong. Pandora also said that the editing for the first episode made her look like she was upset about being paired with Mimi when in actuality she was feeling really sick most of the time she was there, and told the camera that she wasn't feeling well, and that they edited that all out. Which really wouldn't surprise me.
lol, I can totally see Willam being in character the whole time. That's probably what pissed off people like Phi Phi so much. Willam has a great character and she seems like, whether in character or not, she wouldn't mind pissing people off. XD Gotta love her.
Yeah, that's true. Some queens tend to stay in the background until half way through their season; which won't work here. I wonder if Ru will do another All Star season and if it'll be a full length season and if she'll invite any of the eliminated queens (from this time around) back again? I guess it's all just for fun but I do enjoy watching them.

[identity profile] kapvik.livejournal.com 2012-11-07 04:05 am (UTC)(link)
All-Stars is shaping up to be like the Family Edition of Amazing Race; not a bad idea on paper, but a mess in practice. I'm just not loving it as much as the normal seasons.

I think the bottom two was a toss-up, since all three teams had pretty visible setbacks: Latrila's sardines, Yarlexis' hesitation with Yara, and Rujubee's inability for Jujubee to get her act together in the control room. But I guess Alexis' outburst won them reality TV points with Ru.

The lip sync was probably going to go Juju's way anyway because she's just better at performing to poppier songs. But Manila made the mistake of losing her headpiece and going for crazy face: it made her look like Morticia Addams and took her out of the bad girl realness component. Jujubee, on the other hand, looked like a member of En Vogue or SWV and was right on point.

I am going to miss Latrila, though. I guess I have to root for Shad now. But what was up with Manila and the portrait removal? I couldn't tell if knocking down Juju's portrait was shady or accidental, because other than that Manila never really seemed antagonistic towards Jujubee, even right after LSFYL.

[identity profile] dali-muse.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 03:46 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to chalk up the portrait removal as an editing choice, I think it got knocked down by accident. Manila and Juju are on friendly terms IRL so that bit of shade makes no sense.

[identity profile] xbenji65.livejournal.com 2012-11-08 01:10 pm (UTC)(link)
It was an accident, they shot two takes.

Totally agreed. I was so excited for the season, until they announced the team aspect. Then I was cautiously excited, because it was still a ton of queens I love, but now I'm just frustrated and disappointed. It's not compelling, the eliminations and winners seem arbitrary since literally NO ONE has really impressed me yet this season, and I just keep feeling like Ru is just flipping a coin to decide who ends up in the bottom two. I don't really feel like we're getting a true all star, because it just feels like we're going to end up with the queen who managed to tread water long enough to be the last one afloat.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-11 02:14 am (UTC)(link)

I honestly haven't been impressed by any of the lip syncs, any of the mini- challenges, and barely impressed with the main challenges. It's weird that the all star season hasn't been as fun as a regular season. :/

[identity profile] starsatine.livejournal.com 2012-11-17 01:25 pm (UTC)(link)
AGREED! what the hell? This pairs bull is not fair at all. i would really love to see who would win if it were equal and everyone had a fair shot and didnt have to have another queen tied to them. i was so excited thinking that this would be like a regular season of drag race except each queen would be a fan favorite and it would be much more exciting. just like you said. "sounds good on paper, but a bloody mess in practice" bullshit. perhaps after all the fan feedback Rupauls AllStars season 2 may go a little different. Im actually still hoping maybe once they get down to just 2 pairs they'll let them separate and all compete individually and FAIRLY. Now that would kinda make up for it.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 08:53 am (UTC)(link)
But what was up with Manila and the portrait removal? I couldn't tell if knocking down Juju's portrait was shady or accidental, because other than that Manila never really seemed antagonistic towards Jujubee, even right after LSFYL. Manila said on Facebook, and hence twitter, that the sets are really crappy. She didn't mean for Juju's picture to fall down and even shot another take with her carefully taking her picture off; but they went with the more drama ridden shot. She mentioned that all the sets are really cheap and crappy and that they haven't been happy with them. She also said that her loves and adores Juju and that they're good friends.

Why didn't Manila and Chad choose each other? That team would've been unstoppable. Not even Rujubee could've touched them. And what in the HELL is going on with Shannel's fashion sense this season?

Image (http://s1258.beta.photobucket.com/user/starevacantly/library/)

[identity profile] kapvik.livejournal.com 2012-11-09 05:18 am (UTC)(link)
Shannel, while always entertaining, hasn't really ever been one of the fashion-forward queens. In S1 she was always "I'm a showgirl, I'm a Vegas showgirl," and her outfits always veered in that direction: costumey, very flouncy, and very Miss Kitty Russell/Wild West barmaid.

[identity profile] nephyr-pariah.livejournal.com 2012-11-09 11:26 am (UTC)(link)
Oh no, I get that, in fact she was my favorite in season 1. I was mainly talking about the lobster travesty they showed a clip of and the outfit she wore on the first episode.

[identity profile] fueledbykradam.livejournal.com 2012-11-10 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
I don't actually think that Chad and Manila would be a good team; I have a feeling that Manila's sarcasm (as much as I love it) wouldn't vibe with Chad's super seriousness and they would end up not getting along. I think they both chose the person they thought would be the most fun to work with and Manila and Latrice are still having fun. Did you see that great video they made together? :D

[identity profile] starsatine.livejournal.com 2012-11-17 01:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I am SOO glad i found this community! i am a drag race addict!! i was SUPER EXCITED for all stars.... Then i saw that they are competing in PAIRS... the WHOLE SEASON?!?!?! I realize a part of this is to help the season to not last long because they want it to be over long before RDR season 5 begins.. but i thought that each queen was going to have a totally EQUAL shot at proving they are the best. its not fair they have to be judged in pairs and are only as good as their partner.. (Pandora Boxx got ROBBED) I love the show and havent missed an episode. but this pairs bullshit is for the birds. it is not EQUAL. i would love to see it where they all compete ALONE, by themselves and REALLY prove what they are made of. if that were the way All Stars went id love to see who was in the top 4....... just some thoughts.. anyone agree?
