drag_race | Keeping it 100!: The Polls

Bianca`s raccoon make-up doesn`t do it for me, but I live for her snark. I pay out horribly on my nearest and queerest and people either get it or they don`t. Maybe it`s more of an old school thing ?
You`re right about Betty`s attitude, she`s a bit full of herself and that isn`t exactly endearing, but Violet wasn`t very likeable and she got herself a crown.

Dont't remind me about season 7! lol. It was such a let down, no one deserved the crown imo. Yeah, maybe we'll see a better side of Acid Betty next time. She wasn't awful on Untucked, but i'm still not sure about her.

Season 7 can be summed up as "best of a bad bunch." But even then, I liked Pearl better.

But enough about season 7, I like to pretend it didn't happen. ;)

The dynamic of Season 7 was just dire. Personally I hated the musical theatre overload and the ugly new format of "Untucked". I only thought that Violet deserved the win because she did execute some great fashion looks - I especially loved the reversible tartan number, and her reunion show final gown had beautiful bead work.

Everything about season 7 was tragic. So tragic that I have forgotten the majority it. You're right, there was a TON of singing/acting challenges last season! It was horribly unbalanced. Untucked was a mess and it still is. I want it back on the tv, looking all produced and put together.

Yes, Violet had incredible fashion and, of the group, deserved to win for that. The tartan was brilliant. My favorite was the bearded lady challenge where she had that gorgeous pink tea length 50's dress.

Personality aside, Pearl's beautiful. I did love looking at her. (Have you seen pictures of Pearl's dad? He's super hot, too, lol.)

Pearl doesn`t float my boat, I like my trade a little darker and more exotic :p
I think the only Drag Race queen I fancied was Lineysha Sparks, but then when she didn`t even know who Diana Ross was it cancelled out all her beauty.

I'm not usually drawn to one specific type of queen. I always find it interesting to see who does grab my eye each season. It's always different for me. I like allllll the ice cream flavors! ;)

Oh... Lineysha! Ok, took me a second to remember her. (My brain is half-asleep.) Haha... yeah. I hate when stupidity steamrolls all over someone's look. So dissapointing. (I'm still rolling my eyes over the queens not knowing who Little Edie is.)

As for queens that really did it for me based solely off looks... Sonique, Raven, Acid Betty. Those are just the names that came to mind right away. Kinda looks like I have a thing for snark.

Raven is a total doll and although boy Betty reminds me of a carny geek I would still go for that :p
I guess I also appreciate beauty in many shapes and forms, though I gravitate most to generic Arabic looks. I`ve only ever know one out Arab that did drag as a bellydancer, if Ru`s show ever features an Arabic drag queen I will be most impressed as they are as rare as a four leafed clover.

Raven is my all time favorite. I'm so drawn to her.

Betty.... I'm so torn on Betty. At this very second, I am loving Betty, she brings so much to the competition. And I do find him super sexy out of drag, with that great smile. But then she'll say something hateful and my feelings will flip, lol.

If I were forced to name a type, it would be pale and geeky, lol. Add some red hair and I'm a very happy lady.

Ooh, interesting. Arabic people are so beautiful. I can't even begin to imagine the level of drag that an Arabic man would bring to the competition. Do you know if that particular queen has ever auditioned for the show?

I think you have to live in the U.S to audition for Drag Race, and the Arabic queen I knew worked a once a month gay night in London 15 years ago, and I no longer have contact so I don`t know what she`s doing now ?

Oh, that would make sense. I never thought about that what with all of the Puerto Rican queens on the show. But now that I think about it, they all do/did live in the US.

Yeah I think even Courtney Act was a resident of the U.S for a long enough period of time to be able to qualify for Drag Race. In a way i`m glad it`s restricted to U.S citizens as I would hate to see a load of U.K wanna be`s bombard the show :/

Haha, of course Betty can come in different levels of hate! Want an extra hateful dose? Have her work with Chi Chi. A lighter version? Team her up with Thorgy. We'll both get our desired results and they will be delicious.

I'm sure that if you wanted, Betty could even come in a carb free variety. ;)

I know that Courtney has been in the US for quite a while, but I thought Jessica Wild still lived in Puerto Rico at the time. That's what threw me.

Isn`t Puerto Rico a U.S territory ? If so then it`s probably okay to live there and audition. Wasn`t Serena ChaCha from Panama though ? In which case I assume all Latin American countries must also be okay for auditioning ??

It's the white liner under the eye that always drove me up a ball. Other than that, I like her makeup style. I don't think she's the best makeup artist the show has seen, but I like it.

I... don't know if it's an old school thing. I think it's more that people are so over-sensitive any more. If you say even the slightest thing wrong, people attack. I think Bianca is great because she just does not care about that. She doesn't go out of her way to be insulting, but still. So, I gues, in a way, that disregard for being 100% PC at all time is more old school. But I love it. I hate how everyone is so touchy anymore. Pretty soon the entire English language is going to be taboo.

I agree though, you're going to love that type of attitude, or you're going to hate it. I'm lucky to have have friends and family who recognize my snark for what it is. :P

Hopefully Betty will soften up as the competition goes on. (Oh, Violet... )

The best way to counter the PC ridiculousness of the day is to just rip it apart and Bianca does that deliciously. Youth culture has become so precious and uninspiring that it deserves nothing more than contempt.
I feel like I came out of an era where I dealt with a lot of adversity and developed a thick skin to survive it. These days they have it so much easier, but need constant validation of their self worth and book a therapist if they`re denied anything. It really has got to the point where people are scared to speak in case a Carmen Carrera type makes a stink :(

Even if Betty stays spiky I still appreciate her look, I don`t have to like the bitch for that !
The only thing I will say in Violet`s favour is that she really studied and knew her fashion, and to have that down so young is impressive to me.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I can not say YES enough. I am so sick and tired of the entitled attitude of today's youth. They as so coddled you'd think the were raised in bubble wrap and... most probably were! They act like the world owes them everything and it doesn't. And how horribly shocking when they realize that!

I'm the same way. I had to toughen up and deal with all of the bullies and what not because the schools just did not care one little. In fact, they blamed me. I learned to deal with it and embrace who I am, no matter what anyone else thinks. If was awful, but I'm much stronger for it. I got me a thick hide now!

Now everyone gets a gold star simply for showing up.

Betty... Le sigh. I wish she'd just not speak because she is stunning in the challenges. The acapella challenge? I couldn't keep my eyes off of her. I keep hoping that maybe we get a tiny glimpse of something else personality wise. I hope we finally cracked through the shell a little bit when she pulled out the "fat" pictures and talked about hitting on Kim Chi. I want more of that attitude.

2k can fuck right off, I find it so utterly uninspiring. I guess i`m just a 20th century trash bag who in midlife now gets to despair at the youth of today and all the techno babble.
I may be just as clueless about 2k as a lot of kids are about the 20th century, but I was so amused by the way Bob convinced naive Naomi that Garbo was in the Spice Girls :D

I don`t actually find Betty unbareable, she just wanted to get the task down and to me that`s just being professional. Besides if Chi Chi has smelt the brains from a gangland shoot-out, she`s hardly gonna be phazed by Betty`s sissy showdown :D

I so agree. There is so much I miss about the mid-90's. (Yay for nostalgia and disparity!) It seems nothing really new is happening right now. Everything is remakes or vintage style or decorations. And I so agree about all of the techno babble - iPads, notebooks, nook books.... whatever. Give me a real book and quit texting me already.

Oh Naomi.... so gullible. That was very amusing. And also sad. I'm not saying that I know everything about current pop culture or fashion, but I'm not completely ignorant either. I can't stand when the younger queens don't seem to know about about the past. (Tatiana not knowing who Oscar Wilde is floored me. As did Pearl's attitude towards Hamlet. Did they never take an English class in high school?!)

I agree with that, she was right in wanting to be prepared. It's just the way she went about it. I don't think anyone ever told her that you catch more flies with honey. LOL, Chi Chi... I don't know what to think of her most of the time.

I remember in the mid 90`s all the anticipation about the approach of the new millennium and how I thought we would either all be radioactive by then or be living like "The Jetsons". The anti-climax of 2k has so far only given us reality TV overload, hyper PC preciousness and a race of cell phone zombies. Roald Dahl once wrote that in the future the human race would become giant slugs with over developed index fingers which they use for operating their remote controls. I feel like his future vision has arrived :/

I`m so old school that I don`t even have a clue or a care about any of those gadgets you mentioned. In fact i`m probably one of the only people on the planet that doesn`t own a cell phone. My life is just not enriched by all that techno crap and anyone I know that spends their time on it just constantly complains about it.

A lot of kids do seem oblivious to the fact the 20th century even existed and that it has inadvertently supplied them with their 3rd rate plagiarised youth culture. Their lack of innovation actually pains me, and there really is no excuse to be ignorant of the past when the information is so instantly accessible through the internet.
I feel like a lot of the young queens have grown up with the show so only know to emulate what has gone before. The queens that came out of Ru`s era were all so diverse that I don`t see why they can`t still be. Betty is a dog with sharper teeth, but she still brings plenty of oomph and personal style.

Oh yeah, I remember that as well. And then 200o hit and it was like... wha happen??? A whole lot of nothing, to be quite honest. Ugh, we are so slug people. Wall-E touched on that idea, with the people floating around in the hover chairs.

I don't use any of those either, though I do confess to enjoying the Twitter. I have a cell phone, which I usually mainly for work. It helps me keep track of sales, questions, etc., when I'm not near my computer. But other than that, I can't stand how people walk around with their faces glued to their phones. And restaurants are the worst, parents who ignore their kids as the text/talk/whatever. I hate that.

And the kids just do not care that they're lacking the knowledge. That's what's really sad. I was talking to my brother the other day and he told me he'd never seen Wayne's World. I get it, it's just a silly movie, but how do you not even know what it's about? I was floored.

Betty is just so smart about the competition, much like Bianca. They know their history, where they came from and they pull on the knowledge to make themselves a step (or twenty) above the others. Like in the new wave challenge, Betty's comments about the shapes were spot on. It was so irritating to see a younger queen just brush that off. And they 80's wasn't even that long ago, it's not like they were supposed to draw inspiration from baroque music or anything.

The more I think about it, the more I love Betty. Her looks floor me and I can't keep my eyes off of her in the challenges, and that says something.

I was thinking the other day how people don`t shout "freak" and "weirdo" at me as much as they used to, then I realized that it`s because they just don`t look up from their cell phones for long enough to react.
My best friend also doesn`t do gadgets except for Twitter. He is always telling me about how he had a back and forth with say an actress that was in Dynasty or an 80`s pop star, so I guess to be able to have that kind of contact it`s pretty amazing.

My celluloid cut off point is about the mid 90`s, everything since seems to mostly be pointless remakes or awful hundred mile an hour CGI disposable toss. I got suckered in by the nostalgia hype of the most recent Star Wars movie so went to the cinema for the first time in years to see it. I took my ex and he fell asleep, and to be honest I don`t think he missed anything. There is something really lacking in the substance of modern films that just doesn`t do it for me.

Naomi should have been taking notes not bitching about it when Betty was giving her new wave knowledge. I think you`re right about the kids now not respecting that or even wanting to know. I wonder if in generations from now the people will look back on the dawn of the 21st century in the same way Drag Race fans look on Season 7 - that is assuming that future generations don`t just get worse :/

Ah, so true. When I see people looking down at their screens, I always want to stand right in front of them, just to see how they'll react. In fact, I've started walking straight at them, just out of curiosity and it's like they've developed some new sense that lets them know when an obstacle is coming because they always veer around me. It's ridiculous.

Yes, that is one of the most amazing things about Twitter. I've developed some nice friendships with some people I'd never have crossed paths with otherwise, but being able to so easily reach out to people I admire is amazing. And it always gives me such a thrill when I get a response or follow back. It sounds so silly, but it can be very nice to get that little reassurance.

I love movies, especially horror movies, so I've seen a LOT. But I agree, there's a lot of mindless garbage out anymore. I hate to say it, but I missed Star Wars despite wanting to see it. Did it just not meet your expectations? I just saw 10 Cloverfiled Lane, which I loved. John Goodman is always amazing.

Ugh, yes! That was such great advice and she totally ignored it. Has she never seen Sixteen Candles?! Anything out of the 80's?! It was a total lack of respect that I really believe came from Naomi being so young. She just didn't want to listen. I always want to tell the younger queens to soak it all in, learn from those around you. I think that that's something that made Adore so great, she was so ready and willing to learn from everyone and the changes she made in that short of time were really amazing.

Yeah, people will definitely look back and wonder what was going on and wonder what we were thinking. (Or if we were thinking at all.)

Hahahha, yes i`ve noticed that too, how cell phone zombies swerve if they register a potential collision but still don`t always look up. I have a teenage niece who treats her cell phone like a life support system, I really don`t get it :/

I had a few encounters with pop stars and celebs in the nightlife of my youth, but I totally get what you`re saying about Twitter because my best friend is the same with it.

I`m also a massive horror movie fiend, everything from the full-on scare the shit out of you to the laughable schlocky trash. I also like lesser known genres like giallo and w.i.p movies. I must confess to not having seen many modern horrors, but I did look at the trailer for 10 Cloverfiled Lane and thought it looked promising so will check it out on your recommendation.

The original Star Wars movie was the first film I saw in the cinema as a kid and it`s impact has never left me. I mostly went to see the latest Star Wars because I love Carrie Fisher and what she has to say regarding mental health and the human condition. She only seems to have about 3 lines in the film and they seem somehow regurgitated from 30 years ago :/
I just thought the bulk of the plot was a rehash and the rest seemed like a bad joke. I really think it was just the nostalgia that sold it.
A woman I know who`s brother had one line of dialog in the last film told me that in the next one they are trying to be trendy by making Luke Skywalker gay, but i`m hoping she was just winding me up :D

I can see how a young queen can benefit from the wisdom of the drag elder, but having been drag mother to a couple of kids that I should`ve just aborted, I would advice the old lags to leave the kids to their ego`s and ignorance.

Cell phone zombies? Perfect! I've never thought of it like that, but it's so true, lol. My dad, uncle and brothers are the same way and then they make fun of me for NOT being into all of that nonsense. My dad would have his phone surgically attached to his head if he could, I swear.

YES! I LOVE super ridiculous and cheesy horror movies. (Have you ever watched Z Nation? It's ridiculous and fun.) I've never heard of giallo as a specific genere, but I do enjoy a lot of movies that fall under the category. What do you mean by w.i.p.? Unfinished? I love classic horror movies, but I'll take just about anything. (Rape is pretty much my only NO.) Awesome! Though if you hate it, it'll totally be my fault. :P

Back to the wonders of Twitter.... I actually have one of Eli Roth's baby teeth that I won is a very strange contest he held on Twitter years ago. I wear it as a necklace. :D

Ah, so it has sentimental value. I can definitely understand it not living up to the originals in that case. Carrie Fisher is pretty amazing. I loved that she was so adamant about appearing her age and weight in the new movie.

Yeah, I've heard the rumors about Luke. First he was bisexual and now he's gay. So... it might not be a windup. :P

Have you seen any recent pics of Adore? She's grown leaps and bounds since her season. It's pretty amazing.

HAHAHAHA, but the children are out future! ;) Maybe the older queens should toss the youngins in a vat of hairspray and keep the ones who float to the top?
